BIRD’s AMPS is successfully deployed in Africa by several Air Forces, protecting Head of State Aircraft and Helicopters
Aviation Africa 2019, Booth 19
[Herzliya, Israel]: BIRD Aerosystems, the leading developer of Special Mission Aircraft Solutions (ASIO) and Airborne Missile Protection Systems (AMPS), will present its AMPS MD Directional Infra-Red Counter Measure (DIRCM) solution for the first time in Africa, at the 4th Aviation Africa Exhibition. Uniquely designed to protect VIP Aircraft, BIRD’s AMPS is already in operational use by several different customers in Africa, protecting of Head of State aircraft and helicopters. Alongside the AMPS MD, BIRD Aerosystems will also demonstrate its ASIO solution, which is also successfully deployed in Africa by several customers, for ground and maritime patrol missions.
BIRD’s AMPS MD uses advanced Laser to counter any incoming missile threat. The system is designed to automatically detect, verify, and foil SAM attacks through the effective use advanced Directional Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) that jam the missile’s IR seeker and protects the aircraft.
BIRD’s patented SPREOS DIRCM, on which AMPS MD solution is based on, uniquely performs multiple functions, including threat confirmation, tracking and jamming of advanced IR guided missiles. SPREOS slews to the direction of the threat, activates its multi-band radar functionality, confirms and tracks while analyzing its unique information to enable the most effective jamming response. Following the confirmation and tracking, SPREOS deploys the dual-band countermeasure laser, causing the missile to miss the aircraft.
BIRD’s ASIO Special Mission ISR Aircraft solution enables Aerial surveillance of large maritime and ground areas. Cost-effective and specially designed to fit the needs of each customer, this is an ideal solution for EEZ monitoring, Illegal fishery surveillance, borders protection, illegal poaching, pipeline and railways protection, anti-terror missions and any other airborne surveillance mission – all in one multi-mode Special Mission Aircraft.
Ronen Factor, Co-Chief Executive Officer and Founder at Bird Aerosystems: “Uniquely designed to protect military and civilian aircraft against the growing threat of ground to air missiles (MANPADS), BIRD AMPS MD DIRCM solution is the most advanced protection solution in the market today, and we are happy to present it for the first time in Africa, at the 4th Aviation Africa Exhibition. BIRD’s Special Mission Aircraft Solutions (ASIO) and Airborne Missile Protection Systems (AMPS) solutions are already in operational use by several Air Forces in Africa, and just recently we have won another Maritime Patrol Aircraft Program. Our ASIO solution is ideal for ground and maritime patrol missions, and can either be installed on the customer’s available aircraft, or provided as a full turn-key solution on new or pre-owned aircraft”.
The NIMASA Deep Blue project has proved its efficiency as the International Bargaining Forum (IBF) has recently removed Nigeria from the list of countries designated as risk maritime nations
Following the delivery of its ASIO Maritime Task Force Solution to Nigeria, as part of the NIMASA Deep Blue Project, BIRD Aerosystems has completed a successful live demonstration of the ASIO aircraft capabilities, including real-time interception of vessels performing illegal activities at sea.

Israeli company BIRD Aerosystems, has completed the deliveries of additional AMPS systems, including the MACS – a Missile Approach Confirmation Sensor, and a provision of SPREOS – the Self Protection Radar Electro-Optic System DIRCM, for the Czech Air Force Mil Mi-17 military helicopters. The MACS is a semi-active confirmation radar that reduces the false alarm rate of the overall missile warning system. This program is part of a follow-up program with the Czech Air Force that has been protecting its helicopters with the AMPS system for the last 15 years and has deployed them in the most complex environments, such as Afghanistan.
