BIRD Aerosystems Successfully Delivers AMPS for Mi-17

BIRD Aerosystems Ltd. successfully delivered the AMPS-M system on Mi-17 operated under US contracts. The Mi-17 helicopter is the first to be released with the system as part of a large contract signed late last year between BIRD and the US government for equipping a large number of helicopters with the system.

BIRD Aerosystems Ltd. is a privately owned company established in 2001 and based in Israel. BIRD specializes in providing Airborne Missile Self Protection Systems (AMPS) that protects military, civil and VIP aircraft against Man-Portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS) and Airborne Surveillance, Information and Observation (ASIO) systems for Maritime and ground surveillance missions.

Israel’s Bird Aerosystems announced on 3 February 2025 that is has received a follow-on order from a “NATO European client” for its Aeroshield Missile Protection System (AMPS), which includes the Self Protection Radar Electro-Optic System (SPREOS) directed infra-red countermeasures (DIRCM) system.

The order, placed by a long-standing NATO client, includes the supply of systems to protect the VIP Dassault Falcon 7X and Airbus A319 aircraft. Delivery is expected in 2025 and also includes system maintenance services,” Bird stated in a press release.
