Israeli private equity firm FIMI Opportunity Funds has signed an agreement to acquire a 50% stake of BIRD Aerosystems, a leading developer of Special Mission Aircraft Solutions (ASIO) and Airborne Missile Protection Systems (AMPS).

FIMI Senior Partner, Gillon Beck, highlighted the opportunities provided by the investment to help the company increase its market share, as well as the potential market growth for BIRD Aerosystems as reasons for their investment.

[Herzliya, Israel]: BIRD Aerosystems, the leading developer of Special Mission Aircraft Solutions (ASIO) and Airborne Missile Protection Systems (AMPS), will present the SPREOS Compact Directional Infra-Red Counter Measure (DIRCM) solution in its production configuration for the first time at Eurosatory.

“Following an intensive period of development and testing, we are proud to reveal the production configuration of our compact SPREOS DIRCM system at Eurosatory” Says Ronen Factor, Co-Chief Executive Officer and Founder at Bird Aerosystems. “Utilizing a proprietary multi-band laser jamming, the SPREOS eliminates all of the false alarms and ensures that only actual threats are jammed. Combining multiple independent laser generators, including the latest QCL technology, the system is able to counter latest generation threats. ”

Ideal solution for a range of airborne platforms, including military helicopters and transport aircraft, BIRD’s SPREOS ensures optimal protection against different MANPADS threat types. The system can be easily integrated with all types of Missile Warning Systems (MWS) and upon receiving a pre-alarm from the MWS, SPREOS slews to the direction of the threat, activates its multi-band radar functionality, confirms and tracks the threat while analyzing its unique information (velocity, distance, position, RCS) to enable the most effective jamming response.

Following the confirmation, SPREOS deploys its multiband countermeasure laser to jam the threat while constantly performing kill assessment by monitoring of the threat and real-time assessment whether it has been defeated and how effective is the protection.

SandCat, Plasan’s family of 4X4 armored vehicles, offers the flexibility and robustness needed for every defense and security mission. While providing high-end protection, SandCat maintains its maneuverability and agility, even when equipped with surveillance and communications systems. The SandCat family has been designed to support a wide range of challenges and missions including: law enforcement, Special Forces, homeland security, border patrol and armed conflicts. The AMPS was successfully installed on the customer’s helicopters. Alongside the delivery of the systems, BIRD Aerosystems’ conducted also provided installation supervision, integration and testing support for the system.

BIRD’s AMPS missile protection system provides the most enhanced protection for military and civilian aircraft against the threat of ground to air missiles (MANPADS). The system is designed to automatically detect, verify, and foil SAM attacks through the effective use of countermeasure decoys (Flares and Chaff) and by Directional Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) that jam the missile’s IR seeker and protects the aircraft. BIRD’s AMPS has evolved into a standard system for NATO, having been selected and installed on Military, VIP and civil platforms used by NATO members.

This is the first time BIRD Aerosystems delivers a nationwide command and control system

BIRD Aerosystems, the leading developer of Special Mission Aircraft Solutions (ASIO) and Airborne Missile Protection Systems (AMPS), has delivered a nationwide command and control C4I system to a key client. The new system delivered by BIRD Aerosystems includes a nationwide command and control C4I system that incorporates the information from the different surveillance segments, whether aircraft, helicopters, or ground sensors, and incorporates them into a unified nation-wide situation awareness picture.

The command and control system is operational 24/7, and enables to manage mission varying from routine on-going low profile missions, all the way up to full blown highly intensive pro-active missions.

The system was delivered as an extension to the ASIO program which the customer has been using over the past years, and is intended to enable the high-level commanders to more effectively oversee and manage the missions, and create valuable intelligence information.

This is the first nationwide command and control system delivered by BIRD Aerosystems. The system incorporates additional functions such as high-level mission planning for the different forces and a very detailed mission debrief as well.

Following the successful deployment of BIRD’s AMPS by the US Army the company has received a large follow-on order for additional AMPS systems

BIRD Aerosystems specializes in the developing and deploying of two main product lines: Airborne Missile Protection Systems (AMPS) and Airborne Surveillance, Information and Observation (ASIO) solutions.

Following the successful testing and deployment of BIRD’s Airborne Missile Protection Systems (AMPS) by the US Army, BIRD Aerosystems has received a large follow-on order of additional AMPS systems to the US Army. Under the new contract, BIRD will provide its most advanced configuration of Airborne Missile Protection Systems (AMPS) to be installed on Mi-17 helicopters.

BIRD’s AMPS missile protection system provides the most enhanced protection for military and civilian aircraft against the growing threat of ground to air missiles (MANPADS). The system is designed to automatically detect, verify, and foil SAM attacks through the effective use of countermeasure decoys (Flares and Chaff) and by Directional Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) that jam the missile’s IR seeker and protects the aircraft.

Under the US Army program BIRD will supply its most advanced configuration which includes the newly released MILDS Block II UV detection sensors which are a 3rd generation UV sensors with enhanced detection capably and a unique Hostile Fire Indicator (HFI) capability able to detect small arms fired at the aircraft.

AMPS is fully operational on military and VIP aircraft. Significantly, AMPS has also evolved into a standard system for NATO, having been selected and installed on Military, VIP and civil platforms used by NATO members, the United Nations air operations, governments and air forces around the world. This delivery follows previous deliveries of the AMPS system that has been successfully implemented in recent programs of the US.

Under the framework of this contract, BIRD will provide the systems directly to the US armed forces. Alongside the systems, BIRD will also provide installation supervision, integration and testing support for the system.

BIRD Aerosystems wins a 3-year follow-on maintenance and support contract for ASIO Special Mission Aircraft (SMA) in Mexico

This contract continues the current three years contract that included maintenance and support for the Mexican Government ASIO SMA

BIRD Aerosystems, the leading developer of Special Mission Aircraft Solutions (ASIO) and Airborne Missile Protection Systems (AMPS), has been awarded a 3 year follow-on contract under which it will provide a variety of maintenance and support services to the Mexican Government ASIO Special Mission Aircraft (SMA) fleet, which includes Cessna Citation Aircraft Modified to Ground Surveillance missions, Special Mission Bell 407 Helicopters, Headquarters and Intervention Vehicles. BIRD Aerosystems has provided the SMA to the Mexican Government three years ago, and provided maintenance and support to these platforms for three years. Under the new contract, BIRD Aerosystems will continue to provide these services for three additional years. The renewal of the contract is a sign of proof for BIRD’s reliable services, and will allow the Mexican Government to maintain high operational capability.

The three years contract includes aircraft maintenance and follow-on support, Maintenance Inspections, refresher and initial training courses for the operational crew – pilots, technicians and special mission operators, provision of spare parts, ground support equipment and special tools to enable the operational availability of the fleet.

This follow-on contract also includes a variety of system upgrades that shall be performed by BIRD Aerosystems, including upgrade to the mission system capabilities, night vision operation capabilities, and fleet modernization in-view of 2020 regulations.

BIRD Aerosystems’ ASIO solution is installed on Ground Surveillance Cessna Citation Aircraft, Special Mission Bell 407 Helicopters, Headquarters and Intervention Vehicles of the Mexican Government. The ASIO solution allows all operating teams to share a unified overview and real-time situational awareness, significantly enhancing security of borders, strategic sites and infrastructure. Integrated with BIRD’s unique Mission Management System and using the latest surveillance and monitoring sensors, the ASIO solution has become one of the most affordable, reliable and capable Special Mission Aircraft Solutions available today.
